Welcome to Diamond Eye Glassworks
Diamond Eye Glassworks was founded by Lisa Hinck in Rochester, NY in 2021. Previous glass experience began at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA with a BFA in Sculpture: Glassblowing, then following her glass passion to the prestigious Corning Museum of Glass. Paths lead to moving to Rochester, NY and finally creating a space to create beautiful works of art. After the loss of cherished family pets over the years and the recent passing of my father she decided it was time to use her glass skills to provide the comfort of memorials with others.
Diamond Eye Glassworks offers the ability to incorporate cremains of a loved one into a unique and beautifully discreet memorial. In a world that’s so digitally driven I want to provide unique and tangible memorials.
“The story is just beginning I say goodbye to my weakness
So long to the regret
And now I see the world through diamond eyes”
About the Art
The type of glass used by Diamond Eye Glassworks for cremains pieces is called Borosilicate Glass. Borosilicate glass is a type of glass with silica and boron trioxide as the main glass-forming constituents. Borosilicate glasses are known for having very low coefficients of thermal expansion, making them more resistant to thermal shock than any other common glass. Therefore, this formula of glass is a very good choice to encapsulate a loved one for durability and safety.
A small amount of ash is applied to the clear molten glass and is worked in, followed by color application and shaping. This is followed by a cooling process called annealing. This strengthens the relationship between the glass and the ashes. Once the cycle is complete the piece is ready to be returned to the family.
